Based in Norfolk, Tornado Event Hire was founded on decades of hands-on experience within the events and entertainment industry. CEO and Operations Director David Chell has enjoyed a long and successful career working on the front line of events, entertainment, and technical production, growing alongside an industry that has continually evolved through innovation and technology.
David’s journey began in 1987 as a DJ, quickly developing a passion for delivering memorable experiences and understanding the importance of quality equipment and professional service. In 1989 and 1990, he toured Germany entertaining the troops, building valuable experience performing in different environments and working with diverse audiences.
Throughout the 1990s, David continued to expand his knowledge and reputation within the industry. Alongside performing as a DJ, he held resident DJ positions and began supplying equipment to venues, including a Comedy Club. This experience led to opening a dedicated Disco Shop, where he invested in new branded equipment and developed a deeper understanding of the needs of entertainers, venues, and event organisers.
Recognising the growing demand for reliable, high-quality equipment hire, the business evolved from equipment sales into a hire-focused operation, allowing clients access to professional equipment without the need for significant investment.
David’s career also took him overseas, spending two years in Dubai performing at some of the region’s exclusive venues. Highlights included DJ performances at Raffles Dubai on Christmas Day, events at Emirates Golf Club, and numerous clubs, pubs, and hotels across the city.
Returning to the UK, the business continued to grow and diversify, expanding into complete event solutions. Tornado Event Hire began supplying professional staging, sound, and lighting equipment for festivals, as well as audio-visual and production services for conferences, award ceremonies, and corporate events.
During the challenges of Covid, the business adapted once again, identifying new opportunities within the outdoor events market. This led to further expansion into garden parties and private celebrations, investing in gazebo hire, party tents, and LED furniture to provide clients with complete outdoor event solutions.
Today, Tornado Event Hire combines over 35 years of industry experience with a modern approach to event hire and production. From small private celebrations to large-scale festivals and corporate events, our aim remains the same: providing reliable equipment, professional service, and the expertise needed to make every event a success.
